Search Tips
|
Personal Diet Planner (PDP) invites you to search its food database containing thousands of food entries by simply typing a query and clicking the Search button. Here are some basic tips to help you maximize the effectiveness of your search:
- All searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will return the same results.
E.g.: searches for 'whole milk', 'Whole Milk', and 'WhOlE mIlK' will all return the same results.
- By default every word in a query is optional.
E.g.: search for 'apple banana' will return food items that contain at least one of the two words.
- If you want to get the results that must contain a specific word - use a leading plus sign. This indicates that the word MUST be present in each returned food item.
E.g.: searches for '+apple +juice' will return food items that contain both words.
- If you want to narrow your search results down by excluding some specific word - use a leading minus sign. A leading minus sign indicates that this word MUST NOT be present in the search results.
E.g.: search for '+apple -juice' will return food items that contain the word "apple" but not "juice".
- You can use parentheses to group words into subexpressions. Parenthesized groups can be nested.
- You can use asterisk as the truncation (or wildcard) operator.
E.g.: searches for 'apple*' will return results that contain words such as "apple", "apples", "applesauce", or "apple-cinnamon".
- Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put quotation marks around your search terms.
E.g.: searches for '"hot mustard sauce"' will return the results that contain the exact phrase "hot mustard sauce".
